RON CLARKE, MBA

Consulting

For 15 years, I have owned and managed JBS BUSINESS SERVICES with a loyal and skilled team, and have built many valuable relationships with various professionals in the area.

I earned my MBA from York University with concentrations in management accounting, entrepreneurial studies and marketing, a BA(H) and BEd from the University of Western Ontario, a Post-Graduate Certificate from UBC in valuation techniques, and my Provincial Instructor Diploma from Vancouver Community College.

My professional experience is broad, including the operating of my own contracting businesses, managing the Personal Copier team for the Toronto marketer of Canon Canada, and involvement in the not-for-profit sector as Executive Director of our local KBRH Health Foundation for five years during the transition to Interior Health.  I have also instructed business law at Selkirk College in the Business Administration Program. As well, I was a Vancouver Community College auxiliary instructor in the Instructor Diploma Program.

My goal is to be successful in business. Well, really what I mean is, successful in life.  And for me to be successful, my clients have to be successful.  To this end, the effort I am willing and able to put forward follows a unique path to ensure we both succeed so I am pleased to provide to your organization not only management accounting expertise but an array of consulting experience – from business start-up and business succession planning to sales training and technical writing to personal tax planning and tax reduction strategies.

I have called the Greater Trail area home for 30 years now and I am committed to my community.  I was a Board member for 7 years serving 4 as President of the Trail & District Chamber of Commerce, and I am a former Secretary of the LeRoi Community Foundation of Greater Trail, and a past President of the Beaver Valley Nursery School Society. I have acted as a mentor with the Kootenay-Boundary Junior Dragon’s Den helping budding young entrepreneurs.

KIM MARTIN, CPA, CGA

Accounting

I am a Chartered Professional Accountant specialized in public practice.  I completed my CGA and graduated with a Diploma in Business Administration – Financial Management, with a minor in computer science, from Mount Royal College in Alberta.  The West Kootenay has been home since 1993.

My professional experience includes being the finance manager for infrastructure construction projects, controller of a multi-branch business, and auditor for city and government related organizations.  In among those roles I have gained accounting and tax experience in the small business sector.

As the senior accountant for JBS for over 10 years, my priority is to help you optimize your business operations using best accounting, tax, and business management practices.  I also really enjoy supporting my colleagues at JBS … it’s quite the team.

Caleb Kennedy, BCOM

Accounting & Bookkeeping, Tax Preparation

I worked with JBS in a part time role from 2014 and came aboard in a permanent full-time capacity in 2022. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with distinction from Thompson Rivers University with concentrations in both accounting and business management and have also successfully completed the Business Administration Program with honors at Selkirk College in Castlegar.

My professional experience is extensive including several successful management and finance roles in a variety of industries including overseeing a team of 50 as the General Manager of a busy large-scale restaurant in Calgary, working in a senior role in the finance department of a BC Crown Corporation for several years and overseeing the accounting, payroll, and finance functions of a local Non-Profit in the West Kootenay Region.

I pride myself on being a customer service specialist who works closely with each client to understand their specific needs, and then use this information to deliver customized, accurate and transparent services to help ensure success and understanding in all the client does.

DAWN MINTON

Bookkeeping, Tax Preparation, Office Administration

I was born and raised in the Greater Trail area and have been with JBS for over 10 years. I began my bookkeeping experience by helping my parents for about a dozen years with the daily running of our family business.  I also worked three years for a few accounting firms in the area doing tax prep and bookkeeping.  I have completed a CGA accounting course with honours and the Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification Program offered by the Canadian Payroll Association.

On the personal front, I am the volunteer treasurer with the Beaver Valley Nursery School Society. For a number of years I was a volunteer with St Michaels School, including the former chair of the parent group. And I was involved with Girl Guides for years and years.

… and then there’s tax time when an additional 6-7 staff join JBS, most of whom keep returning year after year … after year!
