Columbia Filter Ltd, a Canadian Controlled Private Corporation headquartered in Trail, British Columbia, began operations in 1995 and after 20+ years, the owner is wanting to retire.

Business Operations: CFL manufactures and markets HVAC filters for industrial, commercial and residential applications. CFL is also a distributor of flexible intermediate bulk containers, water filters and media.

In addition to the owner, it takes one full time staffer to run the operation plus occasional part-time labourers during peak periods. The full-time employee is a long term staff member who is versed in all aspects of the business and capable of running the operation. And support is offered by the policy and procedure manuals in place.

With CFL’s well trained staff, the approach to supporting clients is all about service. This relationship selling is a key competitive advantage for CFL.

Competition: There are no competitors physically located within the trading area of CFL.

A competitive encroachment from afar, regardless of pricing, meets with delivery issues.

The opening of a competitor’s branch or a new upstart business within the CFL trading area will compete with the strong long-term relationships established between CFL and its customers.

Community: For those not familiar with Trail, it is located in the West Kootenay region of southern BC along trans-provincial highway #3, just ten minutes from the US border. The area is served by three airports.
